Coffea charrieriana

Carrier coffee (Eng.), Kaffeien-vrye koffieplant (Afr.)

Coffea charrieriana accounts for the only caffeine-free coffee production. The plant is an evergreen shrub or small tree, with glossy leaves, fragrant white flowers and two seeded fleshy fruit. The seeds or beans inside the fruit of this plant are dried and roasted to produce coffee beans.This tree was one of the top 10 new specie discoveries of 2008.

Harvesting

Harvest berries when no longer green, about 7-8 months after blossom.

Propagation

Seed
Soak seed overnight and allow to germinate before planting into a pot.
Cuttings
Use tip cuttings after berries are harvested. Make 15-20 cm long cuttings and leave the top 2-4 leaves. Dip in rooting hormone powder. Place in well-draing soil and keep moist.
