A genus of about 40 species native to the tropical regions of the Americas and southeastern Asia. Producing flowering spadix they are surrounded by long white, yellow or greenish spathe. This evergreen herbaceous perennial is grown as a popular houseplant due to it's preference to a shady location. It has also been found to absorb certain contaminants from indoor air.
Propagation
Rhizomes
Gently remove the lily from soil. Remove a rhizome and cut into pieces using a very sharp sanitized knife. Place pieces onto prepared soil just beneath surface. Moisten and place in warm area.
Division
Remove the mother plant from the pot. Divide the existing plant into sections by hand or using a sharp knife if necessary. Each section should have roots and two or more leaves. Plant in pots.
