1/5

The cherry guava is a bushy tree with slender, smooth, brown-barked stems and branches. It has alternate, evergreen, obovate, dark, smooth, glossy, somewhat leathery leaves. The small red or yellow edible fruits have a sweet, tangy and very enjoyable taste. Eat it with skin and all. The fruit is used in the culinary applications, while the leaves are used in medicinal applications. The tree itself makes a higly ornamental hedge or pot plant.

Harvesting

Production from seed takes 2-3 years and yield will then steadily increase over a number of years. Fruit maturity is staggered over several weeks. While there may be more than one crop per year the main one is in late Summer. They are regular and reliable bearers; for a small plant the yield is impressive. Fruit should be picked daily or every 2-3 days - they do not keep well.
