The fig is a small deciduous tree with large leathery leaves. Kadota is a very old variety that has been documented by Pliny in the year 1200! Kadota has a light green to yellow skin with straw coloured flesh. In cooler regions the pulp can be yellow to pink. It is a heavy bearer and a good fig for preserves and canning.

Harvesting

Kadota is a mid-season variety. Figs are ripe when the skin changes colour and the fruit becomes less firm. The fruit bruises easily so pick before they are fully ripe and use immediately.

Propagation

Cuttings
Take long(30-40cm) hardwood cuttings during winter, plant deep and keep moist.
Seed
Birds and animals spread seed natural and will grow in following spring if sown during winter.
Layering
Place a branch on the soil and keep in place with a stone or rock until rooted. Remove and replant.
