Starplum 11 plums are red. Its orange to yellow flesh is sweet and crisp. Plums are medium sized deciduous trees with beautiful spring blossoms and edible fruit during Summer. For best results always ask a local nursery for advice on choosing the best variety, rootstock combination for your garden. Harry Pickstone, Angelino and Sapphire can be used as cross pollinators.

Harvesting

Fruit have the best flavor when left to ripen on the tree. You can tell when plums are ripe by applying gentle pressure with your fingers. If the skin of the fruit feels soft, then it is ready to be picked. Plums should come off the tree easily. Commercial farmers will test for sugar content and will only start to harvest if the plum have reached a high enough sugar level. They do not continue to ripen after harvesting. Suplum 11 plums are harvested in mid Summer (early January).

Propagation

Seed
Remove the ripe seed from the outer hull and plant in Spring after cold stratification(6-10 weeks at 4-5 Çelsius). Seeds do not breed true-to-type.
Cuttings
Commercially plums are grafted or budded on suited root stock, like Marianna.

Problems

Slugs and snails damage fruit when still small. Weevils or snoutbeetles nibble little round holes in the leaves (and in fruit) and fruit fly can be a pest if fruit is not removed from the tree or orchard.
