Klaaslouwbos

Athanasia trifurcata

Athanasia trifurcata is regarded as a troublesome weed on farm lands. Livestock and game will generally not feed on this plant because of its bitter taste. Sheep and goats that might feed on it during droughts show symptoms of photo sensitivity. Athanasias exude a chemical substance from their root zone inhibiting the growth of neighboring plants, affecting ericas, proteas and buchus, but watsonias, restios, aloes, vygies and annual daisies tend not to be affected.
