The Garlic vine, also called Ajos Sacha, is a woody, climber with beautiful purple to lilac flowers with white throats. It is not related to the common edible onion or garlic plant, although its leaves smell of garlic when crushed and can be used as a substitute for garlic in cooking. The flowers can be harvested for their medicinal properties.

Harvesting

The flowers are harvested for medicinal uses, and the Amazon natives use the leaves as a condiment to flavour their food.

Propagation

Cuttings
Semi-hardwood cuttings. Each stem should have at least 3-4 nodes and be planted in a mixture of sand and compost to start the rooting process, after removing the bottom leaves.
Seed
Sow seeds in Summer or Autumn, in single pots or single spacing, and 15 cm deep. Keep moist until germinated.
