Available more in local markets as it is difficult to handle and does not transport well, even more, the reason to grow it yourself. It looks similar to a tomato plant and has to be supported like a creeper to keep fruit off the ground.
The fruit should be harvested just before it is fully ripe. Store the fruit for several weeks at room temperature. A ripe pepino dulce, has the characteristic purple striping on the fruit.
Seed in pots of good draining compost, just covering the seed, in late Winter early Autumn. Germination usually takes 7-10 days.
7-15 cm stem cuttings, leaving 4 or 5 leaves at the top of the stem.
Grows well in a sizable container.

Light purple/ violet, similar to unopened potato flower.
Pests and diseases are similar to those attacking tomatoes. Be careful not to water the foliage.
