Melons are vigorous trailing plants that produce large round fruit with sweet musk-scented flesh. The outer skin has a pronounced netted appearance. 'Hales Best' is a is a very popular reliable melon cultivar with orange flesh and is a little more drought tolerant than other varieties. The fruits are rich in antioxidants and are mostly flesh, with a very small seed cavity.

Harvesting

Harvest fruit when fully ripe as they don't ripen further once picked. Ripe melons give off a sweet scent. The netting on the skin also becomes more pronounced. When ripe the stem will separate easily from the fruit.

Sow seeds directly in Spring or Summer, 2.5 cm deep, 45 cm apart in rows 0.9 m apart. Germination takes 7-10 days.
