An easy growing salad vegetable that is more heat resistant, will not get bitter in hot weather and is slowest to bolt of all the loose-leaf lettuces. Wonderful in green salads and on sandwiches! Plant them every month from Spring to have a continuous supply in you Summer salads!

Harvesting

Harvest outer leaves as soon as they are large enough and continue until a central stalk begins to form, which signals the end of the harvest period. Alternatively, harvest the entire plant when it's mature, but still young and crisp usually about 30 - 45 days after sowing.

Propagation

Seed
Direct sow or sow indoors. Direct sow seeds 1 cm deep and in rows 20 -30 cm apart. Sowing time best during spring and summer with a germination time of 7 - 10 days.

Problems

Aphids sometimes feed in groups between the folds of lettuce leaves. Rinse them away with a spray of cool water. Slugs and snails nibble holes in the leaves-remove by hand during wet weather or in evenings.
