Buttercrunch is a light green lettuce that is soft and slightly crisp. This variety holds well under stress, has good bolt resistance and is disease resistant. Lovely fresh in salads!
Buttercrunch can be picked 30-60 days after sowing, but the leaves can be picked earlier throughout the growing season. Pick outer leaves first, allowing the center leaves to enlarge to extend the harvest.
Sow directly in well-prepared beds or sow indoors, 6-8 mm deep and 15-45 cm apart in early spring. Germination takes 7-14 days. Transplant when they have two or three true leaves.
Can be planted in a container, provided it is wide enough for the lettuce to grow comfortably. Allow 15 cm for each plant.
Buttercrunch is a light to a medium feeder and needs a moderate amount of nutrients. Rotate with legume crops to build up the soil condition.
