Kale is a highly nutritious, fast-growing winter crop that produces leaves with tightly curled or fringed edges. Dwarf Siberian is a Russian variety and a good choice for cold areas and is mostly resistant to disease. It is loaded with vitamin A, vitamin C, and vitamin K.

Harvesting

Kale leaves can be harvested throughout the growing period once the plant is fully developed, usually within 50-65 days of planting. Harvest after at least one hard frost. Pick outer leaves as they develop or harvest the entire plant.

Start seeds indoors 5-7 weeks before the last frost or outside 2-4 weeks before the last frost. Sow in early spring or late summer, 0.6-1 cm deep, 30-60 cm apart. Germination takes 5-17 days.
