Banana fig

Ficus pleurocarpa

Figs are deciduous trees with large leathery leaves. Banana Fig produces large elongated yellow-green figs with strawberry coloured flesh. It occurs naturally in Queensland forests.

Harvesting

Figs are ripe when the skin changes colour and the fruit becomes less firm. The fruit bruises easily so pick before they are fully ripe.

Cuttings
Take long cuttings (30-40cm) in Winter and plant them deep - about one third under ground.
Seed
Sowing time best during Winter; Space 4-6m apart once germinated. Germination time is long, about 1-3 months.
