Fuyu is a non-astringent variety and can be eaten like an apple before fully ripe. Is has flat fruit that is crunchy when ripe and has a sweet, flavourful taste. Very easy to grow and does well in cool or hot climates. A standard for non-astringent persimmons. Fuyu ripens towards the end of the persimmon season and is the most popular variety in Japan.

Harvesting

Fruit will ripen in Autumn. Cut persimmon fruits from the tree, making cuts close to the fruit calyx, when the fruit is fully coloured. Even though mature fruit is firm when picked, persimmons bruise easily. Store persimmons at room temperature.
