Persimmons are deciduous trees and produce sweet, tangy, tomato-like looking fruit that range in colour from orange to red when ripe. Izu is an early ripening, non-astringent variety and can be eaten like an apple before fully ripe. A good choice for the home garden.

Fruit will ripen Autumn. Cut persimmon fruits from the tree, making cuts close to the fruit calyx, when fruit is fully colored. Even though mature fruit is firm when picked, persimmons bruise easily. Store persimmons at room temperature.
