Citrus × paradisi 'Marsh'

Grapefruit trees have evergreen canopies of dark green leaves and clusters of fruits with the cultivar March with white to pale yellow flesh. The fruit is sweet and tart, and this seedless variety is the most popular variety of grapefruit. Other than being a ornamental plant which looks great in any subtropical garden, it is also used widely in the culinary applications, as well as having various health benefits and being used in the medicinal applications.

Harvesting

Fruit takes up to 6 months to a year to ripen, and can last on the tree a long time before being harvested without affecting the fruit quality. The best time to harvest the fruit is when they have smooth, firm and shiny skin and the fragrance surround the fruit. Pick fruit that is heavy for its size. Harvesting is accomplished by handpicking. Cut the stem short with sharp knife or secateurs.

Cut a healthy portion of stem with several healthy buds and nodes, or points where the leaves attach, from the grapefruit tree. Make the cut at a 45-degree angle and grow in growth hormone.

Seed will grow true to type - sow them in Spring and keep moist until germinated.

Problems

Diseases include anthracnose, blast, brown rot, citrus canker, huanglongbing (Citrus greening, Yellow dragon disease), phytophthora gummosis and tristeza disease. Pests include citrus leaf miner, scales and thrips. The beautiful citrus swallowtail's larva can severely damage young trees!
