Cherry blossom

Prunus spp.

Beautiful tree covered with the most beautiful blossoms in Spring. And the National flower of Japan where it is often called 'Sakura'. The family of apricots, peaches and almonds - all with pretty blossoms, but usually the flowering cherry will not develop any fruit! Edible cherries are Prunus avium and Prunus cerasus, while flowering cherries can be on many different tree species including the popular Prunus serulata. Many hybrids and selections have become popular over time.
